Holding Young Women's Interest in Technology: The Center for Women and Information Technology Mentoring Program |

Getting young women interested in high-technology and computer science can be a challenge. Keeping that interest through college and then on into graduate school and beyond is the goal of the Center for Women and Information Technology (CWIT), the University of Maryland, Baltimore County’s (UMBC) Mentoring Program. ABC News.com called CWIT at UMBC, '...the best resource on women and technology on the web.' Newsweek has named UMBC one of the hottest schools in America. UMBC has earned national acclaim for its comprehensive support of minority undergraduate students studying science and technology. The university may also be best known for its Meyerhoff Scholars Program, which for 15 years has been sending large numbers of minority students on to advanced studies in science, technology, and engineering. In fact, UMBC was just honored by the Council of Graduate Schools for its efforts to build a comprehensive environment for women and minority graduate students. Brian Shields reports. (8:41)
